You can make your own compilation from one or more source DVDs, or select only the parts of a DVD which you intend to view, thus preserving More Space on your backup for the highest quality viewing. DVD Shrink overcomes this problem by compressing or "shrinking" the data from your original DVD.ĭVD Shrink also allows you to re-author your DVD. Most DVD video titles are simply too large to fit, without modification, onto a single recordable DVD-R disk.

DVD Shrink overcomes this problem with built-in decryption algorithms. Commercial DVD titles are often encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files. The first preventative measure is encryption. Most DVDs are designed to Prevent you from making copies. You should never pay for DVD Shrink with shinkdvd.

The output from DVD Shrink can be saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn with software of your choice.ĭVD Shrink is free software. If you already possess alternative burning software and prefer to stick with it, then you can still use DVD Shrink.

You can also download a demo version of Nero. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc.ĭVD Shrink will also burn your backup DVD, if you have installed the latest version of Nero or if you download CopyToDVD. I have ANYDVD HD so that's not a problem, and like you, I think I will just get a BD-ROM to start with due to the cost of writers.DVD Shrink is software to Backup DVD discs. I think Bluray has come a long way since I last seriously visited this forum. I remember what it was like when I was learning all about DVD ripping/converting. I expect as (if?) BD gains momentum, there will be a lot more tools available. If you're a cheapskate like me, you can get away with using freeware with one exception: AnyDVDHD. Sure, lots of people object to Blu-Ray for one reason or another, but it's the best thing going *right now*. I tell you what, upconverted DVD is fine, but once you have Blu-Ray for a while, it's hard to watch DVD or SDTV any more. I have my HTPC, and two Sony BD-P360s, so I'm set. In fact, I've been so pleased with the results that I think it will be a long time before I'm tempted to get a Blu-Ray burner.

But if you put movie only on a BD9 (dual-layer DVDR), then it comes close. Some folks say indistinguishable from the original, which I think is ridiculous. For most movies, if you do movie only and re-encode with BDRB to BD5, the result is very good. I got my BD-ROM for ~ $60 bucks, dunno what that is in Euros. Burners and discs are too damn expensive now. I don't have a Blu-ray burner either, just a BD-ROM.

The other programs already mentioned are fine. I get by with tsSniper because I only use it for editing out adverts from HD captures. It's all still pretty new, and good freeware programs are scarce. It would be nice if there were programs for BD that were similar to the very convenient DVDShrink, but there are none. If intended for a Blu-Ray standalone, you need a unit that will at least play AVCHD. I can use either Blu-Ray or AVCHD output in tsMuxer and it doesn't make any difference to my (2) Sony BD-P360s. If you can set mark-out at a fade-out, it should make a reasonably clean cut.

Due to the smaller file size the copy can be burned on a 'normal' 2.5 or 4.7 DVD-R.

In my experience, if you set mark-in at the first frame of a scene change, it should be spot on. AmoK DVD Shrinker shrinks DVDs up to one fifth of the original size without any noticeable quality reduction. ( TSPE is supposedly frame accurate, but it will cost you.) tsSniper works reasonably well. It's not frame accurate, and h.264 is hard to edit. Here are the details about the main features of this free DVD decrypter. In order to enjoy the three main functions of the best DVD decryption software, get this DVD decrypter free download.

TsSniper is the best free h.264 transport stream cutter, IMO, and I've tried them all. DVDFab HD Decrypter is the best free DVD decryption software available to download for macOS 10.10 - 11.3 and Windows 10/8.1/8/7. Either accept the default 5 minute chapter timings or do the calculations necessary to set a chapter at the start of each clip. Choose the first clip for each one subsequent click "Join". Add the selection and export the transport stream. Using the preview window, find and set your mark in point and mark out point. Set for "Scene Mode", and clear the right-hand selection pane. I'll offer a somewhat crude freeware method:
